Nokia 6216 classic: First Replacement for Credit Card: NFC Device

Nokia announced their very first NFC enabled Nokia 6216 classic phone recently. What is NFC and why this phone is different.

There was the concept of using mobile phones instead of Credit cards and coded smart cards to share the information . The attempt started already and implemented few parts of the world. But Nokia produced the truly NFC(
Near Field Communication) enabled Nokia 6216 Classic ,which will carry the encoded information of you credit card with the NFC supported sim ,and can be used . Just tap the phone or keep within 10 CM distance from the Card readers at the point of sale ,within  1 part of 10 seconds it will be done.

This enables you to buy traveling tickets and other things on the go.Makes the life more easier. As it is using Near Field Connectivity technology it is secure than blue tooth.Experts say. In order to use the NFC technology your credit card information should be saved in the SIM ,and a special sim that supports this technology should be used with the phones. But the sims will be issued by the operator who supplys this phones.

NOKIA’S OFFICIAL ANNOUNCEMENT


Nokia recently introduced the Nokia 6216 classic, a fully integrated, SIM-based Near Field Communication (NFC) device that lets operators build NFC services on the subscriber identity module (SIM) card. With one tap of the device, consumers can share mobile content with other Nokia 6216 classic phones and compatible NFC devices. For example, a consumer could store credit-card information on a device’s SIM card and then make a quick payment by waving the device in front of a compatible contact-free terminal.

The Nokia 6216 classic is based on Series 40 5th Edition, Feature Pack 1, and it implements the Contactless Communication API (JSR-257). Additional features include support for 8 GB microSD cards, USB 2.0, Bluetooth 2.0 +EDR, Bluetooth stereo, Flash Lite 2.1, and MIDP Java 2.1 with additional Java APIs. The Nokia 6216 classic will ship in selected markets in the third quarter and retail for 150 euros.
