Apple is ranked highest in customer satisfaction by smartphone users while LG ranks highest among traditional handset users according to a new study by J.D. Power and Associates. The study measures customer satisfaction with traditional mobile handsets and smartphones across operation, physical design, features, and battery function.

Some interesting facts about mobile use are unveiled in the report.

Overall satisfaction across smartphone users has increased since last year. Users report sending 17 e-mails per day on their phone and 82 percent of users report using address books and to-do lists regularly. Forty-percent of smartphone users have replaced their landline phones with mobile devices while only 28 percent of traditional phone users have.

Satisfaction among traditional phone users has remained steady. On average, traditional mobile phone users pay $28 less per month for wireless service and $111 less when purchasing a phone compared with smartphone users. Still, one-third of traditional handset users are interested in having GPS capability on their next phone.

Apple scored 791 on a 1,000-point scale measuring smartphone satisfaction. LG scored 733 on a similar scale measuring traditional mobile phones. It is the second time Apple has won the award.
